Vidya Vihar Senior Secondary School — a demonstration school. Every figure on this page comes from inside it.

A mark describes. A mistake acts.

Maths: 89

  • · Forms the equation wrongly in word problems — setup, not solving · 4 of his last 6 lost marks
  • · Paired the 9 with its own side in cross-multiplication · Ch 3, Q4 · still open

— and each stays open until he solves the same thing again, unaided.

That number is the whole stored truth about Aarav Deshmukh’s mathematics — class 10-A, roll 7. His teacher saw the mistake behind it four times and wrote a number.

Seen four times. Recorded zero times.

One mistake, made visible across a class for the first time.

24 years of marking judgement, made durable.

Every teacher has a model of how she teaches. Her students get it.

Meenakshi Iyer has taught mathematics for 24 years. That judgement lives in one head, reaches her 168 students unevenly, is unavailable at nine in the evening, and retires when she does.

The helper is taught by her ordinary work. She never writes a prompt.

Her own papers, her own marking scheme, her own corrections — and no student may speak to it until she has approved what it understood.

One override, three consequences

Periodic Test 2 · Mathematics · Class 10-B

  1. She changes a mark

She overrules the helper on one copy, and answers one question: does she mark this differently, or was the handwriting misread?

  2. Her answer becomes a rule

Only the first kind becomes ML-014 — scoped to her class 10 sections, versioned, hers to retire.

  3. The rest of the lot is re-checked

Applied to 11 more copies, each showing the rule that touched it.

ML-014 · versioned, scoped to her class 10 sections, hers to retire

Ten teachers. Ten helpers. None of them sound alike.

Each one is shaped by the teacher it came from — her subject, her years, how she explains, and how hard she is to satisfy. A child talking to Nair Sir’s helper is not talking to Iyer Ma’am’s.

A teacher who takes two subjects has two helpers, because she does not teach them the same way. No child may speak to any of them until that teacher has read what it understood about her method and approved it.

Is it one helper wearing ten name plates?

Two things move, and they move independently. Whose helper it is decides how the answer sounds — Iyer Ma’am is brisk and exacting, Verma Ma’am reaches for something in the kitchen. Who is asking decides what it says — because the helper is reading that child’s own record of mistakes, not a profile she filled in.

Both teachers take Class 10-A and 10-B, so all four pairings are a real timetable. Aarav loses marks forming the equation, never solving it. Ishita’s practice thinned three weeks before her marks moved. The same six words from either child come back different.

Neither helper answers Q6 for them. That is the other promise, and it holds here too.

The same question, asked four ways

Both teachers take Class 10-A and 10-B. Both children are in one of them.

Aarav asks

I got Q6 wrong. Where did I go wrong?

Iyer Ma'am’s helper answers Aarav

You paired the 9 with its own side. Cross-multiplication pairs each number with the other side's bracket — so it is 11(x + 2) = 9(y + 2), not the other way round. Same gap as last week: forming the equation, not solving it.

Iyer Ma'am is brisk and exacting. Aarav averages 89% in maths — and 4 of his last six lost marks were setup, not sums.

Neither helper answers Q6. Both replies are written in advance — there is no model in this build.

Every number we have, and where it was measured.

The same record, aimed at what the child is actually for.

A CBSE school’s gravity is the board exam, and behind it JEE and NEET. A named mistake is the only record that can be re-aimed at a different target without being rewritten — the four steps do not change, the weight on each chapter does. A marks-only record cannot be re-aimed at anything.
